Montessori Nest

Montessori is more than just an approach to learning; it's a way of honoring your baby's natural development from the very beginning.

At Bay Area Montessori Playgroup, our philosophy begins in the earliest months of life, empowering you to support your baby's growth using Montessori principles confidently.

As mothers, we know how daunting and isolating the first years can be. Montessori Nest is our offering to you - a thoughtfully curated environment with plenty of nurturing, hands-on experiences where your baby explores the world safely and you gain deep insights into their unique developmental journey.

In many programs, parent-baby sessions are lively and filled with music and playful stimulation. While these experiences can be enjoyable in the moment, they often leave us with lingering questions and a sense of uncertainty on the parenting journey. Montessori Nest is an intentional and connected, safe space that supports you in understanding, bonding with, and truly seeing your baby’s remarkable ability to learn and grow from the very beginning.

Who We Are

At Bay Area Montessori Playgroup, we’re here to support you on your Montessori journey and help you gain the knowledge and confidence to raise capable, curious, and independent children.

Janani Bhuvaneswaran

Founder / Montessori AMI 0-6 Guide

As a mother and Montessori guide, I deeply understand both the varied challenges of the parent who hopes to build a strong foundation for their child and the teacher who hopes to draw out the best from each student. I started the Bay Area Montessori Playgroup to bridge that gap, making Montessori accessible in everyday family life.

By supporting and empowering you, I help strengthen your child’s journey, and this is why I do what I do.

Alyssa Fujita Karoui

Founder / Positive Parenting Educator & Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator

I know firsthand how overwhelming and exhausting parenting can feel—and how deeply you want to do it in a way that aligns with your values. That’s why I’ve dedicated my work to helping parents raise confident, thriving children while creating space for rest and joy.

My approach is:
Honest and Holistic: Grounded in your family’s unique needs.
Neuroscience-Informed: Rooted in the latest research on child development.
Attachment-focused: Prioritizes connection, trust, and relationship over control and compliance.

Play is the work of the child”, Maria Montessori’s timeless principle came alive for my 21-month-old son in Alyssa and Janani’s beautifully crafted space. The setup and principles they taught and modeled in our playgroup helped me make big changes to playtime and our daily routine at home. The reflections, resources, and individual advice they offered on early childhood development, toy rotation, weaning, and toilet training led to real adjustments in the way we operate. Janani and Alyssa’s gentle and open facilitation really drew my child's attention and expanded his attachment to other caring adults. They are lovely people to have in your village.

Zienab, mom to a 21 months old

I am incredibly grateful for this playgroup; it has been a wonderful experience for my 18-month-old daughter. I have noticed a significant improvement in her ability to focus on activities for longer periods of time, which is wonderful to see. Alyssa and Janani are both kind, supportive, and genuinely encouraging. Not only did they make us feel welcome, but they also offered invaluable guidance. Every week, they introduced a new topic and provided new insights. Their suggestions on how to support my daughter’s development, respond to certain behaviors, and create a calmer home environment have truly made a difference. I have learned so much from them, and this experience has significantly boosted my confidence as a parent.
