Bay Area Montessori Playgroup
Helping you bring Montessori to life
—at home and beyond.
Welcome!
Bay Area Montessori Playgroup was created from a deep desire to help families embrace Montessori as more than an educational method - as a way of life. Often, Montessori is reduced to wooden toys and neatly arranged shelves - but its true essence lies in how we see the child, how we build trust, and how we invite them into a meaningful relationship with the world.
At BAMP, we support you to help children feel safe, seen, and respected from infancy. We guide you to nurture their inner spirit, their uniqueness, and their ability to trust the world around them. Even in the midst of a chaotic world, we want children to know they can shape it with compassion and courage.
This means we care deeply about what they notice and how they relate to life. We leave nothing to chance and intentionally guide their formative learnings. We help them care for the ants as much as they celebrate the redwoods. We invite them to marvel at the quiet magic of a thrasher and teach them everyday ways to protect the planet. This learning begins through caring for the environment, countless language materials, shared meals, and everyday living.

As educators, we offer all this - but we know something vital: the most powerful influence in a child’s life is their family. When education is separated from the family, as it so often becomes, something is lost. But when we work with the family, we create something stronger.
BAMP was born so we could support you - the parent, the caregiver, their first guide. With secure attachment as the foundation, we come together to nurture your child’s growing mind, body, and spirit.
Together, we can raise children who love the Earth, trust themselves, and live with purpose.
“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.” — Maria Montessori

Play is the work of the child”, Maria Montessori’s timeless principle came alive for my 21-month-old son in Alyssa and Janani’s beautifully crafted space. The setup and principles they taught and modeled in our playgroup helped me make big changes to playtime and our daily routine at home. The reflections, resources, and individual advice they offered on early childhood development, toy rotation, weaning, and toilet training led to real adjustments in the way we operate. Janani and Alyssa’s gentle and open facilitation really drew my child's attention and expanded his attachment to other caring adults. They are lovely people to have in your village.

I am incredibly grateful for this playgroup; it has been a wonderful experience for my 18-month-old daughter. I have noticed a significant improvement in her ability to focus on activities for longer periods of time, which is wonderful to see. Alyssa and Janani are both kind, supportive, and genuinely encouraging. Not only did they make us feel welcome, but they also offered invaluable guidance. Every week, they introduced a new topic and provided new insights. Their suggestions on how to support my daughter’s development, respond to certain behaviors, and create a calmer home environment have truly made a difference. I have learned so much from them, and this experience has significantly boosted my confidence as a parent.
